A couple of days ago, I mentioned that I joined The Novel Challenge, didn’t I? I kept a separate blog for that, so here, I’m sharing with you what I have written on the first day of my participation in July:
Yesterday, while surfing the net, I came across The Novel Challenge. It is one of the events being held in celebration of the 2012 National Year of Reading. What is this event about?
What is this event about?
In response to the growing demand, MS Australia has launched The Novel Challenge – the MS Readathon for adults. The MS Readathon is an iconic children’s reading-based fundraiser, and is calling for literary-minded adults to join the fun and get involved too to raise much-needed funds for multiple sclerosis.
How does it work?
As a registered participant, I will read as many books as I can in a 30 day period during July, August and September 2011 and get friends, family and colleagues to sponsor me. This is what all other registered participants all over Australia will be doing too.
How can you sponsor me?
Visit my personal fund raising page on the Novel Challenge website and click on the big red button with the word “Donate”. You can then enter your name, credit card details and a message. You will be sent a tax invoice directly to your email address by MS Australia.
Where will your donations go?
The money raised through The Novel Challenge helps the MS Society to provide services to assist people living with MS such as physiotherapy, access to specialist MS nurses and respite care, whilst also working towards funding research into this mystery illness.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. When you sponsor me online, MS Australia will be directly email you a tax invoice.
I am not suffering from this illness, neither does anyone whom I personally know, at least, to the best of my knowledge. But I became interested in joining this simply because (1) I love to read and, (2) I feel good when I help others. Please sponsor me to read and help over 18,000 Australians living with MS.
To make this project more exciting, I have thought of blogging about this experience too, so you will all witness the adventure I’m having. I will be happy to share with you what books I’m reading, which page I’m on, what I’m learning from each book, as well as the crazy ones that might happen, such as missing my bus stop because of being too absorbed in my reading, or getting almost convinced that Narnia might be inside my bedroom’s closet (ek!).
Though I have read possibly hundreds of books in the past, I would like to challenge myself by reading books I have never read before. Perhaps, once in a while, I might re-read a book I haven’t read for a very long time. But I’m certainly not counting e-books.
Shall I be reading for only 30 days? Hmmm… I don’t think so. At this point, I really would like to keep on reading (and raising funds) until the last day of September, when this event ends. Hopefully, I would be able to do that.
So here we go now. Today, I’m starting the challenge by reading a book entitled And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie. Millions of copies of this book has been sold worldwide, and that made me curious why millions of people thought this book’s worth buying. I bought my copy for $3.99 today at Aldi.
Do you think I’ll be finished with this book by Tuesday?

wish you are finished by then, girl! left you a kiss, hope i get one back, thanks!
by the way, do you mind checking out on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle?
wow this is very interesting… reading for a cause… I wish you all the best my friend
Very well said. It’s refreshing to find a blog that I can refer my readers to. Keep up the good work!
