Holiday Gift Wrapping

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

We are having a Christmas dinner for 30+ ladies this weekend and I’ve been tasked to decorate the hall!

Oh dear!

Blame it on the Facebook pages of Mareeyah Blogs and Mareeyah’s Crafts, I suppose. Now a lot of people at the ladies’ organization know that I’m crafty and artistic…. or want to be.

The theme is “Gifts of Christmas”, which refer to Hope, Love, Faith, Gratitude, Peace and Joy… the gifts, that is. My tasks have been listed on the A4 paper and include using my magical powers to provide a Christmas tree for the stage, Nativity scenes, themed centerpiece for each of the six (at least) round tables, and so on. Somebody’s providing the Christmas tree and the nativity scenes, so I’m not worrying about them. That also means, I’ll have the six centerpieces to worry about.

Flowers? Fruits? A flower vase?

Nah… too common. As someone who just got married not a very long time ago and planned her own wedding reception, I know a centerpiece does not have to be a bunch of flowers… and I would like it to be NOT a bunch of flowers. That way, people will think I have an imagination and am artistic. :-D

So, here come’s the research and brainstorming and research again….

I’m thinking of a nice gift-wrapped box with over-the-top bows & baubles on it…

Like these maybe?

Hmmm…. I think I want something more over-the-top.. like over-the-over-the-top kind of design (yup, that’s not a typo, I really mean OVER the over-the-top! The most sacrilegious, wicked bows-and-baubles decoration for a gift ever!)

(Dear me, you might think I’m possessed going wild like that… I’m possessed with the Christmas spirit, that’s what. Lol!)

So what’s a girl gotta do?

Went to Lincraft and bought a bunch of ribbons, baubles, beads, and other stuff, ‘coz they’re having a 50%-off sale on most of their Christmas items now.

Gotta get back to work now… will report about the Gifts-of-Christmas deck-the-halls tasks result soon. :-)

Why I Love Ferrero Rocher

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

The holidays are once again just around the corner, and that means lots of nice stuff to eat, including chocolates!

You might be familiar of a certain brand of chocolate called Ferrero Rocher. My sister really loves that. I’m not exactly dying to eat that, but of course, when there’s a box of it waiting to be eaten, it doesn’t hurt to eat one or two (or three).

But still I love Ferrero Rocher, though not exactly in the same way that my sister loves it.

Last Christmas, she bought a box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates for herself, and another box for her hubby. She happily ate them, while also sharing them with the rest of the family. When the chocolates were finished, I was happy. Why?

She doesn’t care about the box. She would just toss it to the bin, if nobody wants it. But since she knows I want it, she now gives them to me.

As you can see, instead of buying Tupperware or plastic storage boxes, etc., it came across my mind that I can save these Ferrero Rocher boxes, clean them up, and use them to store my goodies. They are quite useful and I store acrylic paints, pens and pencils, beads, jewelry, etc. in them.

Another wonderful thing about these cases is that, while keeping your stuff organized, it’s also so easy to find what you need, especially after a while, when you have forgotten where you’ve place dwhatever. You won’t need to label each box anymore.

Now you know why this makes me happy.

This Christmas, when you get a box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates, you’ll know what else you can do with the box, aside from throwing it in the bin. :-)

Mareeyah’s Crafts

Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, everyone!

Because I had! Saturday afternoon was lovely, after the morning rain, so I went to a park to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

But later in the afternoon, I decided to come back indoors and figured that my new business needs to have its own Facebook page. Off I went, creating a page, uploading photos, adding captions, until I was able to come up with this oh-so-lovely page:

At very hour that I’m composing this post, I only have two followers. That means, if you like the items I have shared here, especially those that I have on sale at my Madeit store, go ahead and like my new Facebook page. I will have so much treats to add, so watch out for that.

In the meantime, the FB page for my blog (Mareeyah Blogs) will remain in existence and will try to be more focused on the happenings on my blog, though not specifically on my store. That means, it will continue to update you with stuff I post here on my blog, such as personal projects which I document to give you a free tutorial about it. Yeah, stuff like that.

Sold & Solved

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

The other week, I opened my first online store at madeit.com.au. With that, I crossed my fingers that somehow, my products would get sold before the posts expire.

Ooh… aren’t these yummy?

As part of taking a break from doing markets, I thought of continuing a project I’ve started a few months ago, which I had put on hold.

As a big fan of recycling, I attacked the paper bin one day and stole dozens of A4’s in there, the nice clean ones. With patience on the task and optimism for the appreciation of Mother Earth, I rolled the papers and tried to do something we did before back in Architecture school.

We once attended a seminar-workshop entitled “Structures in Architecture”, where we were challenged to create very light but wide-spanned items that can carry heavy loads. And these items have to be either made of paper or of skinny wooden skewers. It was fun and we learned a lot.

So, after reminiscing that experience, I thought of this project and, with much excitement, I tested the strength of my project even though it was yet so far from being finished.

So far, it had not collapsed… yet. But it still needs a lot of work. :-)

I was planning to work on it again.. really, I was. But I got distracted when….

Today, I made my first sale at Madeit and I’m just ecstatic! Hurray! Hurray!

So now, I’m torn….

Guess that’s one of the burdens of having much ideas.
