The other night, I was with a bunch of nice ladies who were just a little bit older than myself. It was the first knitting get-together I’ve gone to. And my confession is, I haven’t knitted since third or fourth grade.
We were all supposed to make a number of this pretty little thing:

Some crafty genius in the group (not me) thought it would be lovely as a gift for mums with newborn babies. Can you imagine just how cute this would be in the nursery?
We were told to bring:
- knitting needles (between sizes 2.5-3.5 would be good) -
- 4-ply yarn of your choice of colour -
- matching ribbon -

- a white picture frame that you can get at KMart for $5 or at Big W for $7.50 -

(except that this little recycler went to Salvo’s instead and got a $1.99 frame of the same size)

(we’ll have to do something with that ugly black frame later, I thought)
I found a nice comfortable couch and got started right away… with the help of this little booklet of basic knitting instructions, that is.

It was tricky at first, but with patience and positive attitude, I cheerfully worked on it until…

Weeeeehhh!!! Can you believe I already got excited with this? The other ladies were very nice to me and helped me knit almost properly… well, I say almost properly, because my carelessness at times resulted to a few mistakes.
Anyway, I made one or two more rows before I realized that the wool had gotten so tight on the needle and I couldn’t transfer it anymore to the other needle for the next row. :-(
So, the expert knitters in the room decided that I’ve better work with larger knitting needles and yarn instead, and make a basic washcloth instead of those cute baby thingies.
By the end of the evening, while others were excited over their finished knitted projects which looked like this:

I ended up with only this:

Well, every crafter has got to experience a bunch of mistakes at the beginning. Surely even Yokoo Gibraan did, way before she started earning $140,000 in a year selling knitted stuff on Etsy. :-)
