Happy New Year!!!

January 3rd, 2012 by Mareeyah

First, I realized I still owe you a report on the “Gifts of Christmas” event… so here it goes…

After a lengthy research, I came up with this idea:

I’m such a lover of cardboard and recycling, so there. These boxes are just dummies, with nothing in them, as they’re meant to be centerpieces, not real presents. :-)

And I also love recycling white paper. But soon, it’s time to wrap the boxes up… and I mean, the real Christmas wrapping begins…

Tah-dah!

Along with the six boxes, I prepared extra baubles, roses, and strings of silver beads, six packs of them too.

Along with the centerpieces, I also prepared the ‘gifts’ in words. At first, I tried printing them in white A4’s, and adding a red glitter film over the text. However, I soon realized the size of the font was not large enough for the hall. With time running out, I resorted to using MS Visio (imagine that!) and creating Christmas version of each letter I need in Jpeg format, then hopped over to Officeworks to have them printed, just as you’d have your normal photos printed. :-)

Here’s how it looked at the hall’s wall…

And now, the ‘gifts’ centerpieces…

I finally decided to have them as gifts, then attach some photos on the sides of each box, showing scenes that depict each ‘gift’ the most.

That one represents ‘Gratitude’. If you’d look closely as the sepia photo on the left of the gift, you’d see that it’s of the tenth leper, who came back to thank Christ for healing them.

This one’s ‘Love’. So many scenes in the scriptures show love and the ones of Christ blessing the children teaching Mary and Martha were two of the four that I’ve chosen for this particular ‘gift.’

Joy! The prodigal son returning and embraced by his father just shows how joyful his father was at his return, eh?

The top of each gift…. Boy, was I glad Lincraft was having a sale when I went shopping! I got these baubles and ribbons for a good bargain. :-)

But of course, I’d also like to show you some of the other decors the other ladies brought for the event. Instead of having a Christmas tree, for example, (which would take a long time to set up and take down – not practical for a 2-3 hour activity) somebody brought this lovely quilt:

Then we also had nativity scenes, and this one just awed me!

I know I’ll never have the patience to finish a project like that, that’s why I appreciate it so much.

How about you? How was your Christmas and did you get any presents ostentatiously wrapped like I did mine? (LOL! Of course, I didn’t wrap the real presents for my family/friends like that… just not practical. :-D)

Hope you all have a happy and safe new year!!!

Hi sis! Your projects are lovely! I think I recognize those photos that you used for the box. I was just wondering if we have the same faith. I’m an LDS.
