YOU might be some kind of a J.R.R.Tolkien fan if you have a Lord of the Rings theme in your mind for your wedding. And what a grand wedding it would be, likely with plenty of guests, for “hobbits love company,” while Aragorn and Arwen have the whole Gondor and Rivendell watching out for their wedding, as royalties.
The best way, of course, of planning for a wedding of this theme is to watch the LOTR trilogy. But then again, here are some ideas of how you can turn the magic of that movie into your elegant wedding.
Colors:
Earth tones, green shades, silver, gold
Bridal attire:
Any of the white dresses Arwen and Galadriel wore. A long slightly shiny flowing white dress with a mild golden shimmer, with wide gathered neckline (nice with small matching crystals), long two-part sleeves with a slanting hem, and matching loose belt, hanging down to the dress’ hem. (Hint: Check out the Divine Collection Wedding Dress – D612 at Elegant Gowns website. It’s so Arwen-ish!) Wear a silver necklace with an evenstar pendant and a butterfly crown.
Groom’s attire:
A long sleeved tunic and a grey skirt, split in front and back, and overskirt, a velvet mantle of dark color, with silver embroidery. For a more dramatic effect, wear a fake breast plate and shoulder plates, black leather boots, leather scabbard with a fake sword, and a silver & brass crown.
Attendants:
You can choose either or a combination of the different themes for your attendants. You can either have them adapt a Hobbit motif (Renaissance peasant look, eyelets, laces, cotton, paisley prints, or some embroidery), an elegant Elven motif (soft and flowing fabrics, like organdy, silk, etc. and can have a little embroidery or beadings), or a medieval-looking Rohirric or Gondorian motif (wearing velvets, heavy colors, ornate patterns). Have them wear some LOTR jewelry replicas. If you opt to have an Elvish entourage, instead of flowers, you can have them wear light Elvish hoods and carry Elvish lanterns.
Invitations:
Scroll invitations, secured with a scroll holder designed like the One Ring or a green or brown ribbon with a elven brooch charm.
Reception Ideas:
A garden reception in the evening would be lovely, reminiscent of Bilbo Baggins’ birthday party at the start of The Fellowship of the Ring. Or you can have it on a roof deck or an ancient castle, much like the last part of Return of the King. At the entrance to your reception area, hang a sign that says “No admittance except on party business.” Instead of table numbers, name the table after places or characters in LOTR. It would also be so cute, & a little naughty, if you can arrange your guests by appearance, assigning the shorter ones to the Hobbit tables, the slender, long haired ones to the Elven tables, the old grey folks to the Wizard tables, and the rest of the ordinary looking ones to the Gondor tables…and request them to come wearing something representing their assignments (like, coming in braids for those in Elven tables). Have large fabric banners hanged around the reception area, bearing the coat of arms of Rohan or Gondor. Entertainment should include singing, dancing and reciting poetry. Have fireworks, though they don’t have to be as magical as Gandalf’s fireworks. Games may include a scavenger hunt, where participants can hunt for various items reminiscent of LOTR (such as the One Ring, collectible figures, a replica of the Phial filled with the light of the Star of Earendil, etc.)
Foods:
Lembas (can be made out of pita bread), fresh fruits, honey-cakes, salads, crescent rolls, doughnuts, rabbit stew, etc.
Favors:
Elven brooch replicas(like those given to the Fellowship in Lothlorien), Mallorn leaf bookmarks, gold rings in chains, LOTR Online Ultimate Gold Guide, cakes, cookies, etc.
Music:
