Parisian Wedding Theme

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

C’EST LA VIE! Of course, you’d want your wedding to be very romantic. And you’ve chosen the perfect wedding theme: Parisian. This is so, not only because Paris is tagged as the one of the most romantic cities in the world, but also because it is legendary for its class, fashion, arts, wines, gourmet foods, and perfection.

So go ahead, make your wedding perfect and absolutely romantic. Ooh-la-la!

Colors:

Red, white, and blue (inspired by the colors of the French flag) or muted colors (black, ivory, matte, mocha, etc.) But if you want to go old French, like in the extravagant Marie Antoinette period, you definitely have to put tons of golds and royal colors.

Bridal attire:

A very fashionable gown will do, as Paris is known for its high fashion. Or a corseted gown, a la Marie Antoinette style.

Groom’s attire:

A classy tuxedo. Again, it ought to be a highly sophisticated design to follow the high fashion image of Paris. Unless of course, you prefer vintage Paris.

Attendants:

Also either in high fashion, or classic, lacy or vintage attire.

Invitations:

Have your invitations in French (with English translation for non-French folks), using fancy calligraphy. Use French inspired patterns, such as Fleur de Lis, Damask or Toile.

Reception Ideas:

Can be indoors or outdoors. If indoors, it could be in a very elegant ballroom, or simply a hall with an added Parisian backdrop, or pictures of famous landmarks in Paris (Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc D’Triomphe, etc.) Decorations may also include wrought iron fences, French paintings, sculptures, vintage lamp posts, or anything very artistic. Remember, Paris is also synonymous to art and romance. Have plenty of fancy, romantic lights, as Paris is known as the City of Lights. Centerpieces include or either: roses, candles in candelabras, feathers, Parisian landmarks miniatures, etc. Have the serving staff dressed in French maid uniforms. You may hire Can-can dancers for entertainment.

Foods:

French dishes, of course. Hors d’oeuvres of mini quiches, baguettes, and canapés. Champagne, cheeses, chocolates, crepes, flambé, cakes, cookies, macaroons, croissants, brioches, and anything gourmet. Presentations should be so beautiful; you’d hate to mar it with a spoon. Remember, French don’t eat. They dine. Food is one of the things that France is known for.

Favors:

Postcards of the beautiful historical sites of Paris, glossy beads in little glass jars, French cheeses, delicate pastries, chocolate bars, etc. Edible favors may be wrapped in vintage lace or fabric. If you want to go traditional Parisian, give away 5 dragées (candy-coated almonds)to each guest, like they did anciently, which symbolized Health, Wealth, Fertility, Longevity, and Happiness (la bonne santé, l’abondance, la fertilité, la longévité et le bonheur).

Music:

La Vie en Rose is a must have. You can also have other famous French songs, such as L’amour est un Bouquet de Violettes, Sous Le Ciel De Paris, C’est Si Bon, etc. For dancing, take music from the most popular music artists in Paris today. You can download MP3s from this MP3 Site , or you can get sheet music for weddings from the Wedding Sheet Music Albums .

Other Ideas:

Beside the cakes, place a stylish label saying, “Let them eat cake,” reminiscent of Marie Antoinette’s famous words. The master of ceremonies may use a lot of French words, especially greetings. Your inspiration may be the wedding of Marie Antoinette of old, or Vanisha Mittal (famous for having the most expensive wedding of all time, and in Paris).

Good luck, ma chere. Go ahead and start creating your Parisian Wedding.

Hawaiian Wedding Theme

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Aloha! So, you’re planning to start an ohana by marrying the man of your dreams and celebrate your wedding with a Hawaiian theme.

Colors:
Tropical colors, red (Hawaii’s state color)

Bridal attire:

Have a wedding gown in any design you want, preferably something very light. Or you can wear a beautiful white muumuu. Or a bridal holoku. For headdress, it’s either a flower behind an ear, a haku lei, or if you want your hair tied in a bun, be sure to pin some fresh tropical flowers around it. For accessories, you can wear native jewelries made of shells or pearls.

Groom’s attire:

Wear white shirt and white pants with a traditional maile lei or a maile-style ti lead lei.

Attendants:

Female attendants can wear colorful muumuus or grass skirts, and wear single strand leis. Male attendants can be in matching tropical shirts and wear ti leaf leis.

Invitations:

Incorporate designs of sea shells, palm trees, or plumerias, even as silhouettes. You may use tropical colors for the envelops.

Reception Ideas:

A luau, of course! Have your reception by the beach, in a giant lawn with lots of palm trees, or by a poolside with waterfalls, with hammocks, a Tiki bar , wooden tables and chairs. Guests can be in tropical attires: floral shirts and dresses. Decorations may include Tiki torches, huge shells, starfishes, glowing paper lanterns, palm trees, colorful parasols, twinkle lights, lots and lots of flowers, especially hibiscus, orchids and plumerias. If by the poolside, you can have floating flower arrangements. Have some hula dancers and even fire dancers for entertainment. You can even have a professional hula instructor present to teach basic lessons to the guests. Instead of numbers for the tables, you can name them after Hawaiian landmarks or islands, attaching a little card of trivia along with it. Centerpieces can be tropical flowers, whole fresh pineapples on tatami mats, beautiful sea shells or a beautiful pineapple palm tree tropical fruit display. Your head table can have some grass table skirting.

Foods:

Roasted pig, tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, banana, kiwi, papaya), taro, fruit or grilled kebabs, iced fruit punch on glasses with cocktail umbrellas, blue lemonade, fruit-flavored shaved ice. Guests may also drink from fresh coconuts, using straws. Foods may be served on banana leaves.

Favors:

Flower leis, cookies or pineapple goodies in little woven baskets, lava-lavas, fancy jewelry made of sea shells

Music :

The Hawaiian Wedding Song. Other music can be provided by an ukulele or a big live Hawaiian band for a more Hawaiian feel.

Other ideas:

Incorporate into the wedding ceremony the Hawaiian tradition of binding of hands of the marrying couple using a maile lei. For the newlyweds’ entrance to the reception area, have someone blow a ‘Pu’ or a conch shell. Check out My Island Party eBook for more fantastic ideas to make your luau the best ever!

`Oia kâ! May you have a beautiful and romantic Hawaiian wedding. Mahalo for dropping by.
