About Hobbies 101
Modified:
All of us have hobbies. Our hobbies could be in different fields: in music, sports, literature, electronics, visual arts, culinary arts, homemaking, travel, …the list just goes on. Some hobbies are very simple, can be done at home, or cost nothing, except our time and energy. Others are more complex, requiring formal training or cost a fortune to pursue. Some are common, which can easily be done by almost anyone. Others require more innate talents. Some hobbies require us to spend much money, while others enable us to earn on the side.
What defines a hobby? A hobby is an activity one engages in, with enjoyment and interest as it primary aims, and not the monetary value it may yield. A person with a specific hobby then, is referred to as an amateur or a hobbyist in that field, rather than a professional, who does the same activity but with earning an income as the basic goal.
