Reception Activities
March 17th, 2010<p style=”text-align: justify”>The wedding reception is for celebrating the start of your married life with family and friends, so let’s have some fun! Here are some fun you might want to include in your reception….

<p style=”text-align: justify”>Wedding Couple Trivia. Prepare some trivia questions about you and your new spouse and write them down on separate cards well ahead of the reception. It could be about your favorite things, how you met, your historical backgrounds, and so on. At the reception, get your emcee, DJ, one of your parents, or a member of your entourage to stand at the microphone, call out a name of a guest and draw a question (from the cards you have prepared.) If the guest gives a correct answer, then it’s his turn to go to the microphone, name the next guest to answer, and draw another question, etc. This is a great way for the guests to get to know the couple better.

<p style=”text-align: justify”>Q & A: Who will do this? Have the bride and groom stand back to back. Have a representative from each table take turns asking the couple questions. It could be about who would be making final decisions on certain things in their married life, such as which TV show to watch, what reward to give a well-behaved child, which house to buy, which in-laws’ house to spend a special occasion, etc. If the groom thinks he should be the one making the final decision, he raises his hand. If the bride thinks it is her, she holds up her hand. The couple give their answers at the same time without seeing each other’s answers.

<p style=”text-align: justify”>Scavenger Hunt.This game calls for one player from each table. Have a few items hidden in various locations in the reception hall beforehand. As the DJ calls out an item, the players rush to hunt for the item. The guest who finds the most number of items wins a prize.

<p style=”text-align: justify”>

<p style=”text-align: center”><img src=”http://mareeyah.com/weddings/files/2009/04/balloonsonfloor-300×114.jpg” alt=”" width=”340″ height=”128″ />

<p style=”text-align: justify”>Promises in Balloons. Write a dozen funny promises in separate pieces of paper and place one inside each balloon. The promises could be something like, I promise to sing “Colors of the Wind” every time I change the baby’s diaper, or so. Place the balloons on the reception hall floor and have the bride and groom try to burst them without using their hands. Have the best man gather the promises for the couple to read to each other.

<p style=”text-align: justify”>Pre-Wedding Scavenger Hunt. A few days before the wedding, have a scavenger hunt challenging the bride and her bridesmaids against the groom and his groomsmen. Arrange to have it in a mall, park or other place with lots of people. Assign a videographer for each team, so that the fun can be recorded on cam and played at the reception. The first group to finish all the tasks wins a prize. The group who loses receives a silly penalty. This game is guaranteed to bring fun memories.

<p style=”text-align: justify”>Group Singing. This game is a great ice breaker. Have the DJ announce a category of songs. It could be Movie Theme Songs, or Christmas Songs, or English Love Songs, etc. When the DJ calls out a table number, the guests on the that table have to sing together any song that fits into the given category. After a line or so, he calls out another table number. The guests on that table sing together another song in the same category, and so on. The guests are not allowed to sing a same song twice,and the guests who get tongue-tied and do not start singing a song within 5 seconds after the DJ calls their table number gets eliminated. The DJ then calls out another different category and starts calling out the numbers of the remaining tables, and so on. A special prize awaits the guests from the last table to remain in the game.
