FRANKLY, my dear, are you planning on an extravagant Southern wedding like they had in the1860’s? Or just mainly patterned after your favorite blockbuster Gone with the Wind? Here are some ideas to match your wedding theme.

Colors:
Country colors. Green, beige, brown, pastels, and some dark colors.

Bridal attire:
A wide skirted beige or grey ball gown, with hoop skirt and petticoats, in huge puffed sleeves and tight bodice, low neckline, low shoulders, ruffles and lots of ribbons. Don’t forget to wear slippers and gloves. Bouquet should have either magnolias, orange blossoms, calla lilies, freesias or gardenias in it. You can look for 1860 costumes in this Fashion Era Ebook.

Groom attire:
In a gorgeous tuxedo, vest and bow tie. Or something like a Confederate uniform.

Attendants:
Pastel colored ball gowns with tight bodice, ruffles, and ribbons. Parasols and lace fans for each bridesmaid would be a lovely touch. Again, the Fashion Era Ebook can provide you with amazing ideas.

Invitations:
Fonts should be dramatic script. Invites in sepia tones make a truly vintage-looking intro to your classic event.

Reception Ideas:
Have your reception in a white mansion or an elegant antebellum southern house similar to Tara or Twelve Oaks (preferably with a wide dramatic staircase) or any ballroom, if indoors, or in a wide garden outside a plantation or historic house with tall oak trees, like in the Twelve Oaks barbecue, if outdoors. Use simple floral centerpieces on the tables, preferably using magnolias or orange blossoms. Keep the decorations simple yet elegant.

Foods:
Home cooked dishes are most preferable. Dishes may include boiled or roasted ham, okra, stews, baked beans, jambalaya, fried green tomatoes, barbecued chicken and pork ribs, puddings, roasted turkey or duck with cranberry jelly, bacon, Johnny cakes, gumbo, fruit cakes, twelfth cake, fresh salmon stewed, ice creams, French dishes. Don’t forget the traditional chocolate groom’s cake. Typical southern beverage includes mimosas, sweet teas and mint juleps. For more ideas, check out this America’s Top Secret Recipes Ebook

Favors:
Perfumes, wooden pipes, cookies in small porcelain jars, small vintage photo frames (nostalgic with your picture in sepia tone), small civil war flags, scented dried flowers, little quilted/embroidered pillows (you can get ideas from this ebook of Vintage Patchwork Quilt Patterns),
etc.

Music:
The theme music of Gone with the Wind must absolutely at the top of this list. Dixie music, waltzes, reels, etc. You can download MP3s from this MP3 Site, or you can get sheet music for weddings from the Wedding Sheet Music Albums.

Other Ideas:
Have the MC or DJ close the reception program by saying “Tomorrow is another day,” with the GWTW theme music played again right after the last words, as a postlude. Review the movie Gone With The Wind, for on-going inspiration for your wedding.
