High Tech Wedding Theme
March 1st, 2010ARE you a fanatic of high-tech gadgets? Are you a computer geek? Or perhaps you and the person you’re marrying met through the internet or mobile phone or electronic store? Maybe you are a Star Trek fan.
If so, then naturally, you’d want your wedding theme to be high tech or futuristic, to reflect your likes or your romantic history. Here are some ideas to help you stage your high tech/futuristic wedding…
Colors:
Black, white, silver, and any other colors you prefer.
Bridal attire:
A simple silver-and-white like that of Princess Leia in Star Trek would be suitable for this kind of wedding theme. You can also opt for a silver-and-black dress, with unexpected geometric designs and metallic accents. Avoid a lacy dress, since it exudes a vintage look. Wear silver and black jewelry (a high tech wrist watch, etc.), but stay away from colored beads or white pearls.
Groom’s attire:
A silver tuxedo? It would also be cool if you would opt to wear a fitting attire (think Fantastic Four outfits) or a space suit.
Attendants:
Silver, silver, and tons of silver and other metallic colors.
Invitations:
Save the date e-cards are available online. Websites like evite.com also allow you to send email invitations to your guests. However, take into consideration some of your guests who might be too traditional and consider email invitations a little improper. You can also send traditional invitations (pocket-fold style) and include a CD with the love story of the marrying couple (complete with photos), your favorite songs, a map and/or directions to the wedding and reception venues, registry details, and an itinerary or activity ideas for the out-of-town guests.
Reception Ideas:
Look for a futuristic-themed restaurant, so you don’t have to change or add much decoration. Or you can have your reception at the pent house of a skyscraper, overlooking the city. A hall with modern design (lots of steel and glass) would also suit the occasion. Or any indoor location, in which you can decorate to appear like the interior of a space craft. Your serving staff can wear black and white with silver cuffs. Your love story should definitely be presented with a projector, like a wide screen movie.
Foods:
You may want to have Klingon foods from the Star Trek films. Again, you’d want silver and other metallic decorations on your food presentation too.
Favors:
Custom-made CDs, mouse pads with the newlywed couple’s picture and wedding details (with a link to the wedding website), digital photo key chains (with the newlywed couple’s pictures downloaded into it), computer-shaped packaged mints or chocolates, iPods, mini flashlights, calculators, or any other electronic gadget.
Music:
Download a play list of your preferred songs to an iPod or MP3 player and attach it to a sound system at the wedding/reception venue to provide music for your wedding. This can help you save a lot, since you don’t have to hire musicians or a disc jockey.
Other Ideas:
At the very start, make your wedding preparations truly high tech by taking advantage of wedding planning softwares, such as My Style Wedding, Summit Soft Wedding Planner, EZ Wedding Planner.com, My Wedding Companion, SmartWedding.com, and Weddingsoft.com. Don’t forget to have a wedding website and a gift registry with online retailers, so your guests can just pick a gift for you online and the company can drop your gifts right at your front door. Have a live broadcast of your wedding over the internet (a wedding webcast). This service can range from $300 to $750, and include even an archive of your web cast so those who missed it can view it and you can even download it and make a copy on DVD. Don’t forget glow-in-the-dark accessories.
Good luck and have fun with all the futuristic elements of your wedding party.
