Narnia Wedding Theme
March 1st, 2010CAN’T get enough of C. S. Lewis’ chronicles? Then maybe you’d want a Narnia themed wedding. The chronicles may not be containing much romance, but with your imagination and these ideas, you can create a unique and magical fantasy wedding based on the Narnian Chronicles. Surely, you’ll have Aslan’s blessing on your big day.
Colors:
Colors of royalty: red, purple, green, blue, and gold. Or if you want your Narnia theme to be during the reign of the White Witch, then you can have white, silver and blue, which are colors of winter.
Bridal attire:
You can go as a bridal version of Queen Susan, or as the good version of the White Witch. If you opt for a Queen Susan motif, you may wish to wear a white version of the gown she wore to her coronation, which is a scooped-necked dress with fitted waist and wide skirt, with upper sleeves and bell-shaped lower sleeves. A tiara with daffodil designs would be perfect as a head ornament.
Groom attire:
Dress as a royalty, perhaps as High King Peter or Prince Caspian in the movies. Knee high boots, a velvet tunic with mandarin collar, hose or slightly tight pants and a cape.
Attendants:
Your attendants may dress up in medieval fashion dresses, like royal courtiers. Or if you aim for a more playful and dramatic wedding, you can have your attendants dress up like tree nymphs.
Invitations:
A scroll is a typical means of formal communication among ancient royalty, which can also be applicable to this theme. However, if you want the typical card invitation and the winter motif as well, a nice white wintry looking invite with silver accents or vague images of a forest in winter would be very becoming. Check out a sample HERE.
Reception Ideas:
Your reception venue can either be indoors (old castles that can resemble Cair Paravel), or outdoors (like at Dancing Lawn), or even on a ship decorated to look Narnian (like the Dawn Treader). For outdoor receptions, put a lamp post by the entrance area and tents with banners floating around with the lion symbol. If you are having your reception in your backyard, you can have your guests go through the house first, then on the door exiting to the backyard, hang plenty of fur coats on the side of the door, to have that “walk through the wardrobe with fur coats” feel. Instead of numbering the tables, name them after places in Narnia (such as Aslan’s How, Beaversdam, Beruna, Dancing Lawn, Chippingford, Lantern Waste and the head table may be named Cair Paravel) or places around Narnia (Archenland, Calormen, Galma, Terebinthia, etc.) If you live or plan to get married around Illinois, there is a place called The Narnia Estate. They have a nice big tent for wedding ceremonies or receptions, with golden chairs that spells Narnian royalty. Or if you’re planning to have your wedding in Europe, or specifically in Italy, there’s actually a town called Narnia in the central part of the country. You might want to have your wedding there too, as it has a landscape perfect for the fictional Narnia.
Foods:
You definitely must have Turkish delight for dessert! Then have some Narnian foods, such as soups, pavenders (fish), venison, peacock, lobsters, salad, cool melons, gooseberry fools, mulberry fools, pies, ices, jellies, nuts, roasted meats, wheaten cakes, oaten cakes, honey, fruits (peaches, nectarines, pomegranates, pears, grapes, strawberries, raspberries), and beverages like fruit drinks and wines of various colors. Have a chocolate fountain.
Favors:
Fancy yellow and green rings would remind your guests of The Magician’s Nephew, which would be suitable for weddings held outdoors, with pools nearby. For a winter Narnia motif, you can give away toffees or Turkish delight. Small lion stuffed toys would also be a good idea.
Music:
Check the soundtracks from the Narnia movies. Medieval or classical music would also do the trick.
